Mongena Game Lodge

Mongena's main reception venue consists of a thatched enclosed lapa which houses up to 150 guests seated in comfortable banqueting style layout. The central fireplace forms the heart of the entertainment area with the sparkling pool on the southern side and the cosy Tshukudu bar to the north-east. The fire lighting ritual at the fireplace has become a Mongena tradition for bridal couples symbolizing their unity in this respected ceremony.

The charming Mongena thatched chapel can accommodate 150 wedding guests on rustic wooden benches whilst watching the grazing nyalas through the open shutters. The hand-operated bell tower announces the arrival of the bride in a traditional fashion. The imported church doors from India add to the grace and historic value of this landmark on Mongena. This venue is also used for theme dinners for conference groups.

The boathouse at the 28 ha Mongena dam is not only a functional structure to house the resident sunset cruise boat, but also a popular viewing platform for a 360° unsurpassed view of the surrounding wetlands and animal- and birdlife. The enclosed upper deck can accommodate 60 dinner guests or 100 church style ceremony wedding guests with amazing sunset views over the indigenous bushveld.

Downstairs , the boathouse boma with its central fireplace, is awaiting the conference and wedding guest with an experience second to none. The resident frog concert in summer eliminates the use of any sound equipment whilst guests watch in amazement how the full moon casts its silver rays over the calm waters of the Boekenhoutriver dam. A bottle of treasured Saronsberg red wine completes the meaning of the "full circle".....

Even for the day visitor Mongena’s elusive bush hide-aways are treasured gems waiting to be discovered. Exclusive bush lunches with or without a self-braai option are offered on the banks of the Pienaarsriver under magestic indigenous trees whilst listening to the exuberant birdlife competing with the cobbling sound of the flowing river. You and your chosen companion/guest can enjoy a peaceful, undisturbed 3 hours whilst enjoying the fine fayre the Mongena chefs have prepared especially for you. 24 hour notice period essential for bookings.
